In Alanya, approximately 45,000 children and 2,000 teachers attended for the start of the 2008/2009 session. Many were starting for the first time and a few tears were shed of course – by children and mothers!.
It was reported that the main problem would be overcrowded classrooms – as in previous years. In some schools there are up to 70 pupils in a class. A related problem is a shortage of teachers.
One of the first items on the agenda in primary schools was the distribution of books. Around 400,000 books were given out free of charge.
We wish all staff and pupils a successful year.
There have been 21848 applications since the day the office opened. In July 2008 there were about 14 enquiries daily. The July total of 419 consisted of 404 wanting information, 1 complaints, 7 wanting some translation. Most of these enquriries were made by German and Scandinavian visitors (%31, %25).
