Nevruz Festivities

The oldest Turkish bayram, Nevruz Bayrami, was celebrated in Alanya on 21 March. It is the celebration of spring and new life. Once the official part of the day was over, everyone settled down to watch and enjoy the festivities.

There were displays of folk dancing, games (e.g. egg and spoon race) for children and the traditional leaping over an open fire!

The Foreign Residents Committee also had a stand which included a drawing competition for children. A good time was had by all.

Solar Eclipse

On Wednesday 29 March a total eclipse of the sun will take place. This will be a spectacular eclipse, lasting over 4 minutes. The eclipse path crosses the Mediterranean Sea and enters the Asian continent through Turkey, where it reaches land about 13:54.
Special glasses are on sale so that everyone can watch this fantastic event safely.
